moatool (moatool.app) is a collection of free tools that process your files inside your browser instead of uploading them. It is built and maintained by one independent developer, not a company. It began with PDF tools and grew one site at a time, one per kind of file.
The sites
- pdfmoa — merge, compress and convert PDFs, redact personal data
- imgmoa — convert images, remove backgrounds, blur, upscale
- vidmoa — compress video, extract MP3, record your screen
- sheetmoa — convert CSV, Excel and JSON, repair broken CSV
- textmoa — word counter, password generator, QR codes
- zipmoa — extract ZIP, RAR and 7Z, encrypt files
- ID Photo Booth — webcam passport photos, background change, print sheets
Why nothing is uploaded
The files people bring to converters are mostly private: contracts, ID scans, meeting recordings, customer lists. Browsers can now render PDFs, re-encode video and run AI background removal inside a web page, so there is no reason to send those files to a server. Every tool on every site follows this rule, and the file security page explains how to check it yourself.
How it stays free
With no server processing files, fixed costs are tiny, so the tools stay free with no sign-up, quotas or watermarks. Running costs are covered by ads, and a paid Pro option removes them, with one key for every site. Neither has anything to do with how your files are handled.
How it improves
Features that are not accurate enough come off the menu, as vidmoa’s subtitle extraction did when its Korean transcription fell short. The real limit is your device’s memory, not a server quota, so very large files can fail on a phone. If a work or school network blocks the sites, see blocked at work. Guides for every site are in the blog (in Korean).
